Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival arrives October 8, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC — the first ever Hellraiser game, built by Saber Interactive in Unreal Engine 5 with a story written in collaboration with Barker himself. You play Aidan, who takes up the Genesis Configuration puzzle box to rescue his girlfriend Sunny from the Labyrinth — the ever-shifting hell of the 1987 film.
Two names alone justify the hype: Doug Bradley returns as the voice of Pinhead (the actor who defined the role on film), and Christopher Young, composer of the original score, handles the music. Early players also report literary touches woven into the narrative — this is a Hellraiser made by people who care about the mythos.
The demo taught real lessons (even though progress doesn’t carry)
The free Steam demo (~40–60 min: Prologue + part of Episode 1) resets at launch — nothing transfers. But the habits below carry straight into the full game, because they’re about how the game works, not what you unlocked.
Survival habits worth keeping
- Start one difficulty lower than your pride says. Even on easy, community players report punishing combat. Healing is scarce; survival horror rules apply.
- Stealth is the default, combat is the exception. Cultists shoot back, and open fights drain resources you’ll want later. Treat every encounter as avoidable until it isn’t.
- Loot the corpses. All of them. Rotting bodies in the Scarlet Church section hide puzzle pieces and crafting materials. It’s grim. It’s also where the supplies are.
- Lockpicking is Skyrim-style. A mini-game of finding the right cylinder position — locked boxes in the cultist compound hold valuable gear.
- Keep a finger near the interact key. Contextual quick-time moments (breaking binds, etc.) trigger mid-scene; on keyboard that’s the F key.
Crafting priorities
The loop is classic survival horror: scavenge, combine, survive.
- Bandages first. With cultists shooting, healing items matter more than any weapon upgrade.
- Coins second. Found or crafted — community consensus is don’t leave them behind.
- Don’t hoard. Use consumables when the fight asks for them. A bandage unused is a death saved for nobody.
Puzzle types you’ll meet
| Type | What you do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Environmental navigation | Move rocks, use fire from glowing objects | Labyrinth |
| Hidden object | Find puzzle pieces in rotting corpses | Scarlet Church |
| Key hunt | Locate and use the “tongue key” | Church offices |
| Lockpicking | Open locked containers | Cultist compound |
The design DNA is Portal-meets-Resident-Evil — environmental brain-teasers wrapped in body horror.
PC setup notes (for the PC players)
- Minimum: GTX 1660 / RX Vega 64, 8 GB RAM, 50 GB on SSD
- Recommended: RTX 3060 / RX 6600 XT, 16 GB RAM, 50 GB on SSD
- Install on an SSD — load times matter in a game built on dread. Cap background apps for the launch build; it’ll be patched, but day one is day one.
One content warning, taken seriously
This is strictly an adults-only experience: strong violence, gore, torture themes, and a narrative that treats drug addiction with unsettling authenticity. The maturity is the point of Barker’s work — but go in knowing it’s heavy.
The angle for Halloween season
A Hellraiser game launching three weeks before Halloween, with the original Pinhead voice and composer, is a gift to anyone programming horror content this month. If you’re streaming it, the launch window (Oct 8 onward) is when search and interest peak — the demo-to-launch week is the moment.
